Have you ever walked into a room and felt a strong emotion, only to realise it is the colour of the room or the furnishings that has made you react this way? They sky is blue, our blood is red, the grass is green, clouds are white & sunsets orange. We have set standards by what people would were to an event, traditional weddings were white & funerals were black.
Colour influences every part of our lives & without colour our lives would be very dull. Our personalities are exhibited in the colours we choose to wear including the designs, whether that be stripes, florals, dots or patterns. Historically the colour purple has been associated with royalty, power and wealth for centuries. Purple’s elite status stems from the rarity and cost of the dye originally used to produce it. Purple fabric used to be so outrageously expensive that only rulers could afford it.
Luckily access to fabric and colour has become affordable and easily accessible. Pastel colour schemes were huge in 1950s decor, with popular colours being pink, mint green, turquoise, pale yellow, and blue. Green, gold, orange and yellow were very popular and could be found on everything from clothes to home décor, and even cars. Previous eras had similar popular colours, but in the ’60s they were pumped up to vibrant hues.
Who remembers the Golden yellow, avocado green, silver, burnt orange, and purple in the 70’s. And then velour, velvet and polyester in clothes in the 80’s in browns, tans orange in all sorts of different shades plus forest green & burgundy! These trends carried through to the 90s with the addition of neon effects in everything we touched. Colour without even trying has become intrinsically woven into all aspects of our life. Autentico have carried these traditions into their range of 150 beautiful colours in their range of amazing chalk paints.
